This week has flown by, and mostly because it has been one thing after another going on.
Monday after Therapy, Ben and I returned home and I put him on the floor for a minute so I could take my coat off. He started spitting up, and there was some bloody mucous in it. After a frantic call to the pediatrician, we were on our way over. The doctor looked Ben all over and said that his tonsils are irritated, and that is where the blood is coming from. She did a throat culture to rule out strep, and said if it isn’t strep (we found out tuesday it’s not) that it’s probably just a virus, and there is nothing to do but wait it out. She also gave me some cream for his diaper issue. The thing is, Ben has been fine…he is off his food (if his throat is sore, this makes sense), but he’s drinking and playing and singing and doing all his Ben things, so I’m not sure. He did sleep a bit more on tuesday…but some of that was during a walk we took, and he always falls asleep in the stroller. Poor guy is medicated within an inch of his life, though, with a new cream for his face (which is FINALLY starting to clear up), cream for his unmentionables, and his normal lasix.

Yesterday we had the first of two interviews required for us to see if Ben qualifies for any state services or aide. We saw the nice people at MORC (the Macomb/Oakland Regional Center), which provides a host of services for Disabled people. There are a couple of programs that Ben qualifies for, and we are hoping to get some funds to help offset the cost of getting him private Physical Therapy this summer. Last summer we didn’t do this, but this year I think he needs it. Next week we have an interview with Social Security to see if he qualifies for Social Security Disabilty…he may not because he is so young, and our financial picture is pretty positive. We’ll see how that goes too.

Ben and I took a long walk with some friends in the neighborhood on Tuesday, and today is supposed to be nice too, so I”m hoping for a repeat this afternoon. Sunshine is good.

Poor Ben woke up crying this morning, and continued to cry through breakfast. After that, things seemed to be improving a bit, until we tried to put him down for a nap, at which point he started crying uncontrollably. We tried everything. That’s when we changed his pants and found the diaper rash of the century hiding out in there. Ben spent his morning pantsless, having his rear fanned and wrapped in a nice cool cotton blanket. He did finally go down for an afternoon nap, so let’s hope that this works.

Things to get better at: blogging. I think of things on a daily basis I want to record…write down….random thoughts that run through my mind, and here I am with a week and a half since my last entry. I like the idea of blogging…I like typing instead of writing, because my mind moves too fast and I write too slow.

Spent the day getting errands done (Costco, wedding present for a friend) then to dinner with extended fam for birthdays. Do you know that Costco opens at 9:30 on a saturday, and by 9:15 (I’m guessing, since we were there at 9:20) there are already people waiting in the parking lot and lined up at the door? Dude, it’s Costco. There’s plenty to go around. If what you want is gone, just go find someone with a forklift to get another pallet down for you.

I am in the process (in process sounds better than “have only just started”) of going through my school stuff again. Last year when I moved out of my classroom I really just threw stuff in Boxes. It’s labeled, but it’s in Boxes. I need to get rid of some of this crap, because storing it is killing me. I hate storing things. It’s such a waste. I need to decide what to keep and what to throw out. Chances are I will not be going back to work until Ben is in Kindegarten, so that’s five years. I don’t know, I need to be careful in these kinds of moods, because I am liable to pitch everything out.

Ben’s Easter

April 10, 2007

Well, there is lots to tell, and many, many pictures of it all. There are LOTS of pictures after the cut (the link you click on below), be warned.

Ben had a great easter, he got a basket from his Nana (mom and dad took the opportunity to get out of one more year of holiday madness…after this we really can’t escape it, but Ben is still kind of young). We enjoyed Brunch. The highlight of the easter weekend was gong to see the lambs on Monday. A close family friend has sheep (among other animals), and there are oodles of Lambs this time of year; my mom and I took Ben on monday. Ben was really unsure what to do with all the noise and unfamiliarity, but he liked it when a lamb was brought to him so he could pet it and let it nibble and suck his fingers.

I think that Ben is going through another growth spurt, because he is eating more than he ever has before. This is good, because he’s eating, but he may also be having some growing pains, he’s been a little fussbudgety this week. I had a friend tell me today how spoiled I am. We were at Lunch and Ben was fussing…fussing for Ben is a little whine repeated a few times, with a pleading look at me for whatever he wants. She remarked, as many people have, that is that is fussy, then I am a lucky lucky person. I know, believe me, I know.

We are spending this week trying to get some things done around the house, Ben and I. I want to have things a little more organized and cleaned (I shudder to say spring cleaning) so that when the warm weather hits we can be outside. Since it’s spring break, Ben has no Therapy this week, and I’m not tutoring and have no Band. Scott and I have started our seedlings, and they are coming up like crazy. I’m happy to see that the seeds I saved from our heirloom tomato that we bought last year all came up. We got ONE tomato off of it (none of our tomato plants did well last year), and I wasn’t sure if I saved the seeds correctly or not. I hope that these produce, because the tomato we got last year was GREAT. We also have Basil (standard), fennel, marigolds, butterfly weed, brussel sprouts, and some other things I’m forgetting, I’m sure. We will get pepper plants and a few more tomatoes from my mom and Scott’s dad, hopefully. We are also planning to take Ben to Eastern Market some time..we need a visit to the spice shop and we need to get some flowers. This freeze has been hard on the things that came up, but they’ll survive. Maybe we’ll just have smaller plants this year.

In addition to this, Scott and I are finally getting around to doing some organizing around our desk area. Our computer desk is in our family room, which I love because we spend most of our time there, and can each do our own thing…but it’s constantly cluttered, which I hate. We bought an organization cabinet at Ikea this weekend, and Scott and Ben put it together. Pictures of this later in the week. Ben loves power tools. 🙂
